Cove_Sheep
To 50 mg, similar to most of Europe "I have today introduced legislation to lower the drink drive limit in Scotland so that, subject to parliamentary approval, new laws will be in place in time for the beginning of the festive period."This new limit will bring Scotland into line with most of Europe and send a clear message to drivers who continue to ignore the warnings that there is never an excuse to drink and drive."Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill
Flure
This could hit "morning after" drivers really hard.

Charlie Endell
It's great receiving lectures on the evils of drink from someone who ended up in the cells because he couldn't behave himself before a football match.
jockodile
If this goes in I hope self breathlysers are on sale in scotland. I remember asking for one in a shop when I lived in glasgow to frowns of the shop owner. I know drink driving is bad, hence I want facts not anecdotal 'I feel ok' morning after. thewelk
In France it's now illegal to not have a disposable breathalyzer in the car. They do drink drive wayyyyy more often though.

You can bet they will be stopping people in the morning to catch a few hungover drivers instead of targeting the pished as a newt drivers the night before. Definitely. For me it's going to have to be a 24hrs from bottle to throttle. Unless I'm driving up from England, in which case my hangover should be gone by Gretna. biffer
This is a good thing. Although people don't believe it, small amounts of alcohol have an effect on your reactions and decision making, so less in your system when you're driving will cut down accidents. There's no possible argument that this is a bad thing.

jailender
Morning after driving is where a lot of people get caught out, and it is easy to see why. You wake up rough as a badger's, and think you are OK. When you start to drive the road is about 6inches wide, and 30mph feels like doing a ton. In this case you should not be anywhere near the car. There's no possible argument that this is a bad thing. Where's the argument that it's a good thing? Is there any evidence to show that people driving below the present limit but above the new limit are a real danger on the road? What do the stats say? Or is this just another "let's be in line with Europe for the sake of it" law from Kenny MacAskill?

phart
Alcohol impairs you're ability to control your body and impacts on decision making. If it were subjected to the same rigours other drugs have it would not even be sold. I know they can't have zero tolerance due to some trace elements from loads of substances , but it should be as close as possible.

TA Torr
While I don't think this is a bad thing I do think that the effort could be better spent catching the drivers who intentionally drink way over the limit and drive. This small percentage cause way more harm than those that have between 50-80mg. Another area is people driving sleep deprived. Read an article saying that someone who hasn't slept in 24hrs has slower reactions than someone who has drank a half bottle of vodka. Drove when absolutely shattered before coming off night shift etc but wont do it again, so dangerous.
