Neither do I. I'd been in the Standing Order throwing them back and started getting the broon sweats in Espionage, as I was getting myself back up the road I had no other option than to go for a shite under the bridge on Lochend Road. That was a good pair of socks aswell

I don't think we will get beat again. ...also this Georgia team are not as good as their 2007 team....

is that the Georgia 2007 team that contained two 17 year olds, one of them the keeper and a player who was without a club

They weren't very good back then. We couldn't cope with key players missing.

XI vs Georgia: Gordon, Murty, McManus, Weir, Alexander, Fletcher, Ferguson, Pearson (Boyd 66), Maloney, Miller (Beattie 66), McFadden.

XI vs Italy: Gordon, Hutton, Weir, McManus, Naysmith, Brown (Miller 74), Fletcher, Hartley, Ferguson, McCulloch (Boyd 90), McFadden.

Makes me wonder why we didn't play our strongest XI against Georgia, although I do remember there were a large number of injuries and suspensions.

Our team was pretty strong back then but it's clear that we have so much more depth now. We could prob field two very strong starting 11s now, whereas in 2007, we really struggled if we lost 2 or 3 key players.

The Georgia game was on the Wednesday night before a Rangers v Celtic game on the Saturday lunchtime. Predictably a few of the players cried off and miraculously recovered in time for Saturday (Brown, Hutton). McCulloch was suspended for the Georgia game having been booked v Ukraine on the previous Saturday.

Don't really blame the players - it was a crazy bit of scheduling by the good people at the SPL. They then very helpfully cancelled a whole round of matches the week before the Italy game, which caused not insignificant fixture congestion (that was the year when the season had to be extended). Perhaps it would have been more helpful if they had just postponed the Rangers v Celtic game.

Remember we were denied a stonewaller of a penalty in the game against McFadden.

Aye, that's right. It was the big Rangers centre-half (his name escapes me) who brought him down too, IIRC.

Maybe my memory is playing tricks but I remember Faddy having a chance to score in the first minute but didn't take it.

We were awful that night, possibly our worst performance of that campaign. A win would have seen us as good as there too.

Thing was, we went into the game on such a high yet you had the feeling things were going to go wrong and they did. Hopefully, it's a reverse result this week which we need.

My overall recollection of the game is in this blog.

We seemed to go into that game with an almost blase attitude. Maybe because we knew a win over Italy would be enough.

I remember David Begg the night before describing the game as a "free shot", which annoyed me a bit. The game was a must win to me.

I reckon we'd have qualified that night if we'd won, given the extra pressure it would've put on France, who really struggled against Lithuania as it was...

We only needed two more points to qualify before the Georgia game. Two draws against Georgia and Italy would've done it.
