Germany V Poland

looking through the remaining fixtures and bearing in mind how all the games have gone up till now, what would be the best outcome from this match for Scotland. (assuming we can do the business in Tiblisi)

Most folk seem to think it is just a matter of time before Germany hit top gear and win the group, but in reality they are walking a tightrope just like the rest of us. A win for Poland to complete the double and a failure for them to beat us on Monday would leave them facing the play - off spot.

That are your thoughts on the best possible outcome fore us, and why?

Definite best result for us is a Germany win. Lets look at the history of international football - Germany ALWAYS qualify so if they lose/draw V Poland it means they are sure to beat us as they are perrenial qualifiers and so they will amass enough points to qualify. Also should Germany win V Poland their mindset changes somewhat for the match at Hampden. At a push they'd take a draw but anything less than a win V Poland for Germany and they will come at us at Hampden like rabid dogs hungry as the match then becomes a must-win for them. Not the scenario we want for the match.

Germany win.

If ourselves and Germany both win on Friday we just need to beat Poland at home to effectively qualify outright ??

(That's a BIG 'if' right enough - I'm also taking our away match in Gibraltar as a given 3 points).

only few sleeps, night bus to Frankfurt and there we go :)

I have no expectatons whatsover about that game in terms of result .Defeat is a most possible outcome but.. that was the same melody before the game in Warsaw.

I think one point will be great , 3 points and we are going to France- simple as that.

For Germany it`s the last moment to get their sh*t togoether, otherwise they might be forced to play-offs or even not qualify.

It`s a lot to play for on friday.

I think you will drop the points in Tbilisi but it should`t determine te outcome of our game in any way.

I have seen this theory before, but i don't necessarily agree with it. Any team, Germany or otherwise, who are in a situation where they HAVE to win a particular game (especially away from home) are not going to be in the best mindset to play controlled football.

If they did lose to Poland their media would be attacking them from every angle, the pressure on them would be immense and we have proven over recent times, we will be no pushovers at home.

I realise what you guys are saying, but on the other hand, a Poland win would set up an absolutely frantic game with us having the chance to consign the reigning world champions to a probable play-off position.

Germany have already proven in this qualifying campaign that they are more than susceptible to shock results. They SHOULD be able to turn it on at the flick of a switch, but they can't rely on other teams sticking to the same script!

It`s just a feeling.

On the paper you should win of course. But it`s a hard ground to come and not that easy team to break (once you done it is breeze but until then...). Plus possible tropical weather, something your players are not used to really.

The only thing I take from your comment is (once done it is a breeze)

The breeze is on..........................

It's a fair point. I hoped you would slip up there as well but deep down knew you would almost likely win.

That is wrong as, as far as qualification records go, Germany aren't just 'any team'. They do not know what not qualifying is about. They'll be in France as sure as eggs are eggs. That leaves another qualifying spot from our group up for grabs and for us to take it we want Poland to slip up against Germany.

Previous campaigns have no impact on this one. Fact is Germany are the best team in the group but they are in a fight to qualify with us Poland and to a lesser extent Ireland. They might still be favourites to qualify but they've got 3 tough games to come

The bottom line is that, the past does not necessarily dictate the future. If it did, then nothing would ever change! Being Germany does not automatically give them qualification, they have to earn it, like the rest of us.

Yes but have you asked yourself why Germany always qualify even though the players change and the managers/coaches change? It is the German psyche. It is engrained into everyone of them throughout the generations and that carries them forward. If you will it is a winning mentality in the psyche where failure is not an option.

If Germany win it puts less pressure on our game v Germany. Otherwise Poland are suddenly 90% through and if we get beat by Germany we are screwed for automatic place.

Assuming we beat Georgia (which I'm not that confident about) our game v Poland will be the decider IMO. We must approach that game with the upmost professionalism and show that we deserve to be in France.

Long way to go though. Loads of permutations so just got to take each game as it comes.

Records are there to be broken though. At this stage in qualifying campaigns Germany are usually sitting comfortably at the top of their group, the fact that they are in the pack with some of their most difficult games still to play should suggest that this could be the time where they don't take an automatic qualifying place.

You are probably right and they will do their usual, but, this has been far from straight forward for them up till now.

Well put it this way - if you gave me £1000 to bet on a team for automatic qualification and out of Germany and Poland it would always go on Germany. It isn't just that - the other reason German win would be better for us is if they lose then their match against us becomes a must-win match for them and upping their mindset. A win for them and they'd quite possibly be happy to settle for a draw if we are all square going deep into the second half.

Assume everyone beats Georgia and Gibraltar.

If Germany win, we need to -

- Beat Poland, or

- Beat Germany and draw with Poland, or

- Draw with Poland and hope Ireland beat Poland (but not Germany)

If Poland win, we need to -

- Beat Germany, or

- Beat Poland and hope Ireland beat Poland or Germany

If it's a draw, we need to -

- Beat Germany (and come out of it with a better head-to-head)

- Beat Germany and draw with Poland

- Beat Poland and draw with Germany

- Draw with German and Poland and hope Ireland beat Germany

I think.

The way I worked it out was, Germany-Poland draw, Germany beat us, We beat Poland and Poland v Ireland draw means we qualify automatically along with Germany.

Don't think that sequence of results is out of the question!
