Qualification For France 2016

Just sitting here thinking about what qualification for France 2016 will mean to me if we can successfully negotiate our group.

I'm 42 years old and actually being with Scotland at a major championships is about the last thing to tick off on my footballing bucket list. I was in the Royal Navy for 9 years so missed all 3 that i could have gone too. Basic training scuppered Italia '90, my 3rd Gulf trip sunk Euro '96 and a Balkans trip shipwrecked France '98 ( :-)) see what I did there!!!!)

I spent my first 17 years pretty much watching Celtic everywhere so have done most of the grounds in Scotland. I've traipsed around Europe with them & seen them play in some magnificent arena's (and a few shitey ones too) and seen them in a European final.

My son was born in Portsmouth & from the outset I was adamant he would support his local side so over the course of 15 years I've taken him all over England across all 4 leagues watching Pompey and I only have Sheffield Wednesday, Port Vale, Huddersfield & Rotherham to do and I'll have done all 92 league grounds.

So back to Scotland. Trips to Dublin & Faro are sorted already and hopefully the charter to Tiblisi comes off to save the hassle of arranging that one myself and everytime I think of Scotland and the games we still have to play I get excited and scared in equal measure - Like everyone else I want us to qualify for France 2016 so bad its almost painful. The teams maturing into a side we can all really be proud of, In wee Gordon Strachan we trust and everyone's buzzing again. We'll soon be back at Hampden for the remaining qualifiers having taken maximum points at home so far. Is this it, could this really be our time? So many if, buts and maybe's! Yes Im enjoying the ride but the expectation and anticipation is killing me too!!

No pressure Scotland - but you know what, I'll love my country no matter what happens!

In GORD we trust, this is our chance.

Quietly confident that we will finish at least 3rd if we can go to dublin and not be defeated.

The poland vs ireland result in march will be interesting as surely without being complasent we should be winning against gibraltar.

A draw in dublin in march for poland would be preferable.

Cant wait until march 2015, even looking forward to the northen ireland game.

Gordon has got me buzzing for this campaign.

We are in the mix and privately gordon must be looking at 2nd.

After 20 years in the RN, I know exactly how you feel Tom. I did manage to go to games at Euro 96, but missed out on the others we qualified for. Don't intend to miss any future tournaments that Scotland qualify for :ok:

With you brother, Its all about Scotland future tournaments now :ok:

we will win in Dublin. if the team don't get 6 points v Gilbralta I will personally assemble a firing squad for them (excuse the pun)

A draw in dublin wouldn't be a disaster, but if your prediction was correct that would set us up nicely for the final round of games.

Must admit i have started looking at the group D table again and the permatations of each match. (its a 3 stage process - get consumed by nothing else in the final few weeks/days going into a Scotland game/double header, then theres either an almighty buzz stage where for a couple of days if we win its optimisim galore or on the flip side, pain and depression for a couple of days or probably a week, and then thirdly once the result wares off no matter if its victory or defeat, its the sudden realisation that theres nae game for ages, a lull, back to normal life)

As im now in the lull, normalities stage and as we are defitnitely going to be in the mix for this one and as i mentioned im now checking the fixtures again i have come to the conclusion, as many of you will have that this has to be the tightest mo'fkin group in the history of qualifying. Honestly go through each game starting with ROI v Poland in March, so many twists and turns still to come.

If we end up coming 4th in this group it could be up there with November 07 giving where we've come from and how well we've played recently.

Like everyone else, whilst not wanting to assume .............. cause we all know what that means ;-)

Should we be there, what's your thoughts as to this design for France 2016, or would a different colour combination be more attractive, i.e. like an 'away' hat of red and dark blue>>>>>>or even a rosebury combo? We know its quite a bit off in the distance, but Tom's thread seemed a good one to ask the question on - hope ok with that Tom

On a side note, should the 2016 design be made, anyone buying the original design - available to purchase here - will get a 10% discount off the France 2016 version :ok:

I feel the same way as the OP. Qualifying for France would mean everything to me. I am 27 now so I was 10 during France 98. My dad only occasionally goes to Scotland games so I never got the chance to go there. I can vaguely remember watching the games on the telly but at that age you think it's going to be like that every 2 or 4 years.

I'm staying in Australia for 12 months so I've only been to the Germany game this campaign. Looking to be back for the Poland/Gibraltar double header. I know it's sad but sometimes I catch myself daydreaming about qualifying. I just wonder how many fans we'd take to the Gibraltar game if we need a win to qualify and then to France considering it's been 18 years.

i'm 33 now, was just too young to make france 98, for me this is the tournament we have to get to, fantastic country to hold a tournament, i will go for the whole tournament if we get there ,this is probably the last tournament that i will be able to go with a large group of my mates before other commitments rule a lot out of making such a trip, also the next euros being spread out is a joke, for me its the same as going abroad for a qualifer only with more at stake (actually you could argue less as we would have already qualified for a tournament and that its all about for me), it would cost a fortune as well, infuriating. Qatar I would boycott for numerous reasons, just typing out Qatar fills me with rage and who knows what state Russia is going to be in by the time the WC there rolls around. when does the location of Euro 2020 get decided ?
