niallb
Its all been said before I understand Uefa's reasoning Its been in place for a while now I'm really just on here to get it all out but............. I really am sick and tired of it. The upcoming games really are hitting home how pap this whole idea is for me, Mr Monday-Friday 9-5. I live in the central belt so pretty much feel for the huge numbers who dont. Of course, Scotrail doesnt help by not putting on semi-late trains (I'm not asking all night - but at least a couple of trains through East and heading North which run a bit later than 11pm!) Germany on a Monday.....Poland on a Thursday. All in all - as much as it might be better for folk watching on TV - is anyone actually enjoying this format and its working out well for them?? wanderer
I like it, but the days less travel between games is really being felt in places. Even looking into the next campaign, for travel plans (at the minute just basic) you are finding yourself only arriving in places on the morning of the game, when before you would be arriving the day before the game.... and even getting back for games at home can prove difficult in places. PASTA Mick
It's shite. But at least we can watch Wales v Israel on SKY.
adamntg
Pros and cons. No strong feelings either way. I did used to enjoy the Saturday afternoon games but take the kids now so it's all about the football.
1ANDYP
I like it. As said before plenty of notice to organise time off. And it's only half a dozen times a year. Some games don't require time off and others do. Dublin cost me a week holiday ( I work weekends )but had ages to plan it.Monday or Thurs night game is no different to a usual midweek game. laurataylordu
I am not a fan of it either at all. I work Mon to Fri 9 till 5 and am also fortunate to live in the Central belt, in fact half an hour car journey from Hampden, but it still dont. For a good few reasons. 1. I cant get time off my work as Im a teacher and on days of games feel like im in a constant rush to get to there which makes the enjoyment less 2. For me football is for a Sat and thats it. I enjoy the social aspect of having a few drinks before a game and then having the next day off to do something else. Banter and pre match is all the fun. Midweek does not allow this. 3 I can hardly get to any away games now at all as Im not allowed holidays outwith term time. Sat games made this possible as can fly etc on a Fri. Less away games and less away points 4 I have a 2 year old and if its a midweek game I dont see him and is harder to get a babysitter 5 - Mon are just an awful day for football. Its a Mon you survive your first day back at the most then want to go home. You dont want to go to a football game in the pissing rain or snow 6- Its dark midweek I could go on! ?Having said all this I am at the midweek games and try to go to every away game I possibly can. You're right, we should probably tailor the fixture schedule around your job and childcare arrangements.
PASTA Mick
You're right, we should probably tailor the fixture schedule around your job and childcare arrangements. I think Saturday football, particularly international football, suits more people than Monday night football.
Mazziessc
2. For me football is for a Sat and thats it. I enjoy the social aspect of having a few drinks before a game and then having the next day off to do something else. Banter and pre match is all the fun. Midweek does not allow this. My view on it too, I enjoy the whole day as much as the match itself. Like many I work mon-fri and live in the central belt. I have used a days leave for the germany game and half days leave for poland as I dont have much time to travel when work finishes and I like to get to a good pub or organised event before the game to enjoy the attmosphere. In these cases renfrew ferry. In short mid-week games cost me holidays, hasle not to mention work with a hangover the following day.
Donaldo87
I just get on with it. Hangover or not.
GaryWood34
It's pathetic really. UEFA and FIFA are killing the real supporter in favour of the armchair fan.
Jagtag
I don't really mind it though I do prefer home games on a Saturday. I live in London and work shifts. every game is an away game (except Wembley) so I have to book time off, flights etc to every game.

Yeah, it is. I was more taking the pish out of the "childcare" and "i can't take holidays whenever i want" (from someone who gets approx. 10 weeks off a year) complaints. Lion Rampant
We've always played midweek games, whether this is a Monday or Wednesday makes no real difference. It's not as if UEFA have sprung midweek games on us from nowhere I'm quite enjoying the set up now, as i'm finding that I can make more away games as a few of them are falling on saturday/sunday or even a Friday. I also enjoy being able to watch games all weekend, which was a downside to International weekends when there was nothing on the tv after the games had been played. I think we were spoiled with the Euro 2008 campaign where all home games were on a Saturday and there seems to be an opinion forming that we should play all our home games on a Saturday. I think we just need to accept that we were lucky that time and it's not the norm.
teecee-
Slightly in favour. Agree some midweek games are a bit unconventional but I like having the opportunity to watch and bet on other games throughout the week.

I think we just need to accept that we were lucky that time and it's not the norm. It's true, we have always had midweek matches but now we could get 2 in a week rather than one. The Friday/Monday fixtures are the worst IMO. For international football, fans have to travel from all over their country (and sometimes from further away) to get to home matches. Putting as many of these as possible onto a Saturday makes sense. The reasoning behind the move is enough to make it wrong.
shaggycoo
I work a 12 week rolling rota, 5 over 7 days a week so generally have to take time off to watch any Scotland game though the irony here is that both the Germany and Poland games fall on my days off!!!! wanderer
TBH Saturday internationals is something of a new thing, as it wasn't until the WC98 qualifiers we started getting games on Saturday, and even then, it has really only been the Euro 2008 campaign where we got lucky and every home game was held on a Saturday (one of the reasons that campaign is remembered so fondly). Apart from that we have always had mid week home games, just a case we have now come full circle and all the games are spread out.
alaninalba
I'm surprised that so many posts are in favour of the format. I would have thought that normal working fans (I'm retired) would have been against this but it appears that most are for it. Double headers are a problem though and trying to catch both games and physically getting to the away leg and back can be difficult.

Suppose it is one of those things of can you get your circumstances to work around it.... for home games I work until 4:30 (3:30 on Fridays) and from my work I can get either a fast direct train that is into Glasgow in 30 minutes, or a slow train that is into Glasgow in 45 minutes (with option of trains every 20 minutes), and after games I can get a direct train that has me in the house for just under 1.5 hours after the full time whistle. If you live outside the central belt, then it is a little more tricky.
Angus_Young
Tbh it doesn't suit me one way or the other. I work shifts so no matter what day it falls it's a lottery for me. The two upcoming home games I happen to be off so it's worked out well. Had it been at the weekend I would have needed to put holidays in. Have to say I Would much prefer Friday night or Saturday afternoons though given the choice.
