Don't the FAI still select Northern Irish players who want to play for them even if they aren't eligable through normal FIFA rules. But it doesn't work the other way around. Northern Ireland can't select players from the Republic outside normal elegibility.

Normal rules ? You really want to educate yourself on FIFA eligibility rules before posting rubbish

There is certainly one team in this group that has had special elegility rules different to most other teams , you probably know them as you support them

As a a four pointer I'll probably be relying on one of my Irish friends sorting me out in June.

no need. Just have your debit/credit card ready and when they go on sale buy them off ticketmaster.

There was loads of Germans in the home end when they pumped us at home in the last campaign. I can see the game in Dublin selling out but not extraordinarily quickly.

We regularly have circa. 15,000 empty seats at games.

Interesting stuff.

Question for the older Irish fans, when Northern Ireland were at the World Cup in 82 & 86 did you cheer them on?...

I was young back then lad so dont remember too much about those competitions

But for what its worth....if the Republic were not to make it to France and the North were....I would have no hesitation in supporting them

Personally i really hope they make it to France....think it would be great for them.

They have made an excellent start to their group so they have every chance

Brianie - I seriously doubt there will be any trouble with the genuine Irish supporters, especially those wearing colours. Only potential problem could be with the tossers with Glaswegian accents who see themselves as 'Irish' trying to noise up the home fans. I speak from personal experience on this.

I can hardly have a go at you boys for buying home end tickets - I sat in the home end in Alicante in 2011 as I couldn't get an official SSC ticket and we had around 25,000 fans in Paris in 2007 for example.

I bit the bullet and decided to buy a ticket for this game so looking forward to meeting with some of the Ireland support in Glasgow.

well now at the next election Sinn Féin may well be the largest party in both parts of my country. The DUP has exploded into small pieces and the parties in the south have lost all credibility with people in the south.

Sinn Fein a good party to have running a country

I believe that pedophilia is far too serious a matter to use in scoring political points. Certainly being governed by Tories and UKIP wouldn't be ideal for me

Yes as did everybody in the RoI that I can recall. Indeed there were competitions incl one from the state broadcaster RTE to win trips as well to support NI.

I recall a minibus from Dublin to Belfast in 1983 run by a Dublin based northern born nationalist but mainly full of southerners to support NI v England. There used to be trains from Dublin right up to the 1960s to big games at Windsor Park.

I think a 1993 WC qualifier led to a major change in attitude. Indeed the huge numbers of fans from across the border supporting the Republic began just after that.

I would want NI to win v anybody except us. However there is a mixed view among our support and I recall being in Lansdowne Road when they took the lead v England and a few were saying they'd rather England won. To me England are on main rivals as this has been the case historically. Many would now see NI in that role though.

No doubt alot of nationalist people used to support N.I, especially when they were doing well.

That night in Windsor 1993, a W.C qualifier changed everything in Irish football. Beforehand Hamilton called the ROI mercenaries, and he really stirred up the pot. I was at that game, and the way we were treated was disgraceful. You could feel the hatred coming from the N.I fans. Really spiteful, booed our anthem and the players played up to it.

Of course we drew and went to USA,but that evening a line was drawn in the sand, a them and us feeling. The troubles were going on at the time and I think alot of people from the south realised how bad it was. Mad how sport can influence politics.

But not serious enough to stop you using stupid emoticons and if you read the articles you'll see it's not just child abuse it's also about the cover-up and condonement of general abuse of women.

Question for the Irish lads. On the YBIG forum I've noticed that whilst obviously Man Utd, Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal, Spurs and Villa are have their supporters, one of the more popular teams is Sunderland. Any particular reason for this ?

I believe that this may be the answer:

"Charles John Hurley (born 4 October 1936) is an Irish former footballer who played mainly in the centre back position. Hurley is best known for his long career at Sunderland, where he was named the Black Cats' "Player of the Century" by their fans on the occasion of the club's centenary in 1979. Nicknamed 'The King', Charlie Hurley was a classy defender for both Sunderland and the Republic of Ireland."

A joke is circulating that since their massive defeat to Southampton at the weekend some Sunderland fans are protesting by declining food. Apparently the've ate nothing!

It was Billy Bingham who made the mercenary remark. We did try to have the game moved which didn't go down well either. I was at the game as well in the home end. It was tense once the pubs emptied a few minutes before kickoff. There was sectarian chanting and singing but I think it was blown out of all proportion down here. I think there was shock among the general population that NI wanted to stop us qualifying eventhough it should have meant nothing to them.

the emoticon was for the 2nd part of my argument - I had presumed that you voted to be ruled by Tories + UKIP.
