i think its obvious there is an issue behind the scenes there.

I think thats the only conclusion to be drawn. Had a falling out with diCanio at Sunderland but if there was something wrong with his attitude I wouldn't have expected Hughes to have taken him to Stoke.

Don't understand why Strachan continually doesn't pick Bardsley. Much better option to cover left and right back than Whittaker.

Also don't understand people dismissing Ireland s squad and bumming up ours. there is nothing between the teams as the game at Celtic Park showed. We just showed a bit of imagination which won us the game.

The two squads are very evenly matched, but we won the game at Celtic park due to us being the better team that night.

Happy with the squad with the exception of Forrest who is, IMO, Pish. No chance in hell he will push Maloney for a starting place.

Mulgrew has made it due to his performances in a Scotland shirt. I personally thought he was our most consistent player before he suffered his first injury.

Bananan too is there as he has never let us down.

I tend to agree with wanderer. There will be few surprises. Ritchie might start. Martins partner is still up for debate. That apart I don't expect him to change too much.

Personally I think we are the better footballing side but there really isn't a lot in it. Ireland have some very good players in their team. This game has a real Derby feel to it. Either team winning by the odd goal or a draw couldn't surprise anyone I don't think.

Quite pleased with the squad , majority of these players have played a part in getting us into the position we,re in so no need for big changes, i think adam being called up is about right on previous performances so dont think the players left out can feel too hard done by

Reynolds has never convinced me he has the tools for international football. Recalling Rhodes for 1 game and then dropping him is bizarre.

I don't think Reynolds is that bad but the problem we have is, who can we replace him with ? The only other candidate is Liam Cooper at Leeds United. It's unbelievable just how few central defenders we have available just now.

There is also a controversial option. An English born, former Welsh Under 21 international with a Scottish grandparent playing alongside Reynolds at Aberdeen who's said he's interested in playing for us :-))

On the basis of playing regularly, Darren Fletcher stands a decent chance of starting in Dublin.

Commentator on Sky just said Fletcher has played more consecutive games for West Brom this season than he did for Man U at any time in his career.

No real surprise. He was up against Keane, Scholes and Butt for a huge chunk of his career. Fletcher is good but not at the same level as butt and no where near the other two.

I would add I'm delighted to see him back. Always felt he was too good to be sitting on the bench. Would imagine leaving that group of players with Sir Alex as manager would be nigh on impossible though.

The squad looks decent enough.

A few thoughts -

Goalkeepers.

McGregor is the weakest of the three strong options we have and he's not a big loss as he'd be unlikely to feature against Ireland. It's not a bad thing to bringing in a younger 'keeper because we're likely to lose Marshall, Gordon and McGregor at around the same time to old age and we need to have other options ready. It will be a good experience for Bain.

Defenders.

Hanley is a loss but the rest pretty much pick themselves. I'd rather Reynolds wasn't called up and his spot was used by a younger option like Danny Wilson but I understand why Strachan will have gone for the experience. Maybe Bardsley would be worth a call-up but Hutton and Whittaker appear to be well ahead of him.

Midfield.

The only really question mark I have is over Mulgrew. He's not played much for weeks and I just can't see him being used in the Ireland game. My only thought is that Strachan knows Ireland will be a threat in the air and Mulgrew would give us a good option for set-pieces at both ends of the pitch. There are a few players that you could argue deserve a call-up with Mackay-Steven and Armstrong being mentioned already. IMO, the player that is the unluckiest to miss out is Matt Phillips. He's been in very good form for QPR recently and could have been a good option for us.

Attack.

I'm happy that in-form Griffiths has been re-called but sad that Rhodes has dropped out. Russell is lucky to retain his place as McCormack should also be ahead of him.

What happened with Forrest getting his boaby out - allegedly - in Elliot's?

Charges get dropped or has it still to go to court?

Not sure but here is Che Mulgrew with an interesting pose.

Having watched Aberdeen a few times this year. Reynolds is a very good player for Aberdeen and in the SPL but I don't think he is good enough for International football. Then again until he is tried out no one will ever know. Surely he'll play against Qatar?
