scot scotland scottish
Surprised its took this long for a thread! Anyway, my first ever trip to the festival awaits.Going on the Friday (not really expecting much to be honest as it will be so busy) - any other TAMBers going down this year? All tips will be welcome - including best ways to get around, pubs and bars to visit, where to view, what not do etc etc. And of course some winners please
Charlie Endell
I'm there Tuesday and Wednesday (for the fifth year running). I'd been doing a bit of research but the information overload was getting too much - just going to play it by ear on the day. The atmosphere is unmatched in racing - staying in Bristol tomorrow night so that we can get up to Cheltenham around when the gates open to soak it up. Where are your tickets for - Tatts? scot scotland scottish
Tickets are for the Club. Set me back a few quid but thought it was an occasion with spending a bit of cash on. I'm also really concerned about the quality of views we'll get so that was also a factor in getting club tickets. Still think we'll hardly be able to see anything - hope to be proven wrong! Early flight to Birmingham on Friday and early flight home on the Saturday so just staying at airport. Won't even get to Cheltenham until after 12 noon. But, hoping to get a few beers in Chelteham itself after racing as I believe the town is really good on festival week.
Charlie Endell
I've always just bought Tatts tickets so my Club knowledge is sadly non existent. It will be mobbed but I'm sure you'll be fine for viewing. I've heard the Arkle bar in the Club is decent. The Garden bar is usually a bit quieter than the others as it is tucked away - when you come in the main entrance pass under the walkway linking the Centaur to the stand, then head left (past the bookies' windows) and finally left again at the steps. scot scotland scottish
Thanks for the info Brian. Much appreciated! I'd been a bit sceptical about it all but hearing how much your posts has got me raring to go! Hope you have a great (and profitable) festival! Pyramid
Getting the Train down to brum tomorrow for the annual pilgrimage to prestbury park. Used to go for the full 4 days, and have done club on numerous times, but now go tues/wed and tatts. Tips Be there early: doors open at half ten. Istabraq bar upstairs of centaur.( turn right up a spiral staircase). Comfy couches etc. Sit and review form etc, enjoy a pint of guiness and the there is no queue for the toilets. Or as mentioned the garden bar, behind the paddock All others unless your there early, forget it. The reason I stopped going thu/ fri was it was getting too busy. Can't move, but that is where the club pass comes in as there quick walkways through hospitality areas. Go to the guiness village. But to be honest find a space anywhere, and stay there if there's a group of you's. Viewing for you. If you've not got a seat then the other best places for viewing, a corridor in the upstairs of the centaur!!!!' And a place in the corner of the stand. Also near where the owners and trainer is next to the seafood bar. If you can't get there for the gold cup, just watch on the big screen, then make a point of going there for the future race of the afternoon the foxhunters. Cheltenham itself, every pub is bouncing. Book a table for a restaurant early, as you will be struggling later on, or kebab it is. Hope you's enjoy it. Have a profitable time.

Unfortunately getting there early is out the equation for us. Our flight to Birmingham doesn't even land until after 10am. Thanks again though. Hope you have a good and profitable trip! Charlie Endell
I fancy an e/w nibble on L'Unique in the Mares' Hurdle.
wembley67lisbon
Who we backing in the champion hurdle? It along with the champion chase look the most exciting of the 'big' races. Fairytale to suggest fly/sacre double! The new one, dodgin bullets would be my gut feeling pics.
Pyramid
Re the first days betting angle. Very poor from a punting perspective. 4 shorties, 2 competitive handicaps and the 4 miler. Unless your on any of the 4 short hotpots at fancy ante post prices I would forget about them. 2 trebles with un de sceaux and Annie power bankers and a 4 timer. Alternatives for mares glens melody, and polly peachum to place on the tote? Main bet in the 4 miler wounded warrier. Won't be far away with nina on board. Champion hurdle. 2 horse shoot out, with faugheen likely winner. Like dodging bullets. Done nothing wrong. Enjoy folks.
Charlie Endell
Agree on the punting for tomorrow. I like Cause of Causes in the four miler.
shunkyboy and the fluffer
Tomorrow is pants for punting and its all willies fault . Fancies are Buywise (not sure where it runs but possibly the coral cup) and Bobs Worth in the Gold Cup. Good luck to all those going (lucky bstards). Parklife
Placed a couple of bets for tomorrow. Looks like the only way to get value is to combine Mullins horses. Went for a treble of Douvan/Faugheen/Annie Power. They're all short but they all deserve to be IMO. Backed Thomas Crapper in the last also. Will look at the other races in the morning. Donaldo87
It looks suspiciously straightforward tomorrow.
Squirrelhumper
Not going this year. Starting to feel gutted now. Have day off Friday. Mullins could kill bookies tomorrow.
nelbo009
The town is fecking jumping already. No doubt the Festival is a great occasion, but it's a right pain in the arse when you live here & still need to get to and from work! Anyone needs any tips on where to go in town etc., drop me a PM Tomorrow is a bit crap for punting. Treble of Annie Power, Faugheen, and Un De Sceaux I think - I was going to add Douvan but I've been put off a bit. Qewy could be a decent e/w shout in the first. Not a clue what else to do though... Parklife
Druids Nephew getting a bit of love from a few folk who's opinion i respect and with Gerraghty on board, it's probably a better option than anything else in the race.
Pyramid
Two bets for me today. Since wounded warrier doesn't go in the 4 miler, very wood will do. And Barrakilla in the handicap. Best of luck what ever you's do.
shunkyboy and the fluffer
Leaving all races with Willie Mullins bankers well alone so todays donation to the bookies going on. Lamb or Cod 40-1 e.w Knock House 16-1 e.w
BremnerLorimerGray
Not going this year. Starting to feel gutted now. Have day off Friday. Mullins could kill bookies tomorrow. Absolutely gutted I'm unable to make it this year. Had a belter last year. Forgetting the horses for a minute, the calibre of female is incredible for the whole week. Donaldo87
Doing a prediction thing in work so thought I should put an accy on cos id never forgive myself if I picked all 7 right...£180k back from 50p Going with Douvan in the first (free bet effectively) so we'll take it from there.
