Lets Keep Some Perspective

Reading lots of negative comments on here (and elsewhere) about tonight which I find unnecessary and disappointing. Lets keep the heid here and look at the bigger picture. This was always going to be an ugly match at this time of season with little edge or tempo and there was barely a tackle made in the whole game. N.Ireland are clearly better than Gibraltar defensively and are way more disciplined and this was a decent run out against a team that was all too happy to pack men behind the ball.

Without playing with any particular fluency we still managed to win the game and were the better side throughout. We should have scored in the first 20 minutes which would have changed the game as they would have come out a whole lot more. If as I expect us too we start the game really fast on Sunday and get a goal it will make the whole match a hell of a lot easier. Hopefully we won't waste the early chanes we create. We also got a couple of palyers some much needed game time and tried a couple of new guys out. Its always difficult to get much continuity in these type of games. Anya for instance has hardly kicked a ball for Watford over the last month or so and whether from the start or the bench on Sunday his pace could be a huge factor against a team like Gibraltar. He looked rusty in the final 3rd but again showed how good he can be at getting in behind.

There will be at least 6 changes for Sunday folks so lets keep a sense of perspective. I suspect that all of Marshall, Hutton, Robertson, Morrison, Brown and Naismith will start along with Greer, Martin, D.Fletcher, Maloney and one of Anya/S.Fletcher.

Lets keep the positivity of this campaign going. Onwards and upwards and lets see a convincing win on Sunday setting us up for a biggie in Dublin in June!!

Nice post.

I only seen bits of the game inbetween getting ready for work, but it looked like we were fairly solid. We look comfortable on the ball as well. My only concern is we don't seem to be able to create enough clear chances up front.

We are a decent side, if we could finish and create a little bit more in the attacking areas, we would be a very good team.

Gibraltar is a perfect chance to grab a few goals.

Forsyth did very well in the glimpses I saw. I can't ever recall seeing Gordon or McGregor make a save.

Whilst tonight was not perfect. We won. We played alright in a mix-match side. Kept a clean sheet. We keep the momentum and high spirits around the side going simply by winning tonight.

I'd love to see us get a few goals on Sunday.

We're getting there, nice and steady.

No complaints about tonight at all, we won, no-one got injured and performance was reasonable given the circumstances.

I am in no doubt it will be a different team with a different attitude coming out at Hampden on Sunday.

Are people actually complaining about last night, bizarre. Dominant possession throughout, can't remember them having a shot on target, nice passing moves, especially out of defence and we were playing with a team that half of which won't even be starting come the qualifiers. We also had to play against a team that was happy to park the bus for long periods, so action in the final third of the pitch was always going to be messy. People obviously have short memories of the Levein era if they didn't like last night. Only thing the game highlighted was we still lack a goalscorer when chances came, to many shots at the keeper.

I wonder how many threads along the lines have been opened on the TAMB over the years? Someone always feels it's not enough to post into a match thread - the "perspective" outlook always seems to merit a thread of its own :)

I thought that's what the message board was for?! Giving different perspective and thoughts. This was a post match opinion and differed from some in fact a lot of the negative comment on the match thread. Thanks for bumping it though! ;)

Football forums are the home of 'knee-jerk reactions' anyway.

Just take it with a pinch of salt.

This. And this one more so than many others. Def not a reflection of most Scotland fans.

Spot on OP. :ok:

We created the lion's share of the chances with four times as much efforts than Northern Ireland. Gordon unemployed whilst their keeper was kept bus (much more so in the first half) and all this with a far from full strength side out. Sure Northern Ireland were the same but saying that then we both had weakened sides out so result not affected. I have also heard the stuff that they are rubbish. Really? Sorry but rubbish teams aren't in the mix for qualification like they are so I wish people would quit looking at this N. Ireland side as if it were the ones that struggled to even win games ten to fifteen years ago.

We played poorly with a weakened side out and still won - to me that is the sign of a good team. Sooner win than be like we were a few years ago when a win in a friendly was non-existent but thrashing were regular.
