Our team is glenvale afc we are currently sitting bottom of div 2 but with an aging team it's hard to compete with the young guns.we have only played 10 games in the league so still plenty of time to turn things around. With some new faces and a bit of fight we hope to move up the table.

It can sometimes only take two or three good additions to turn things round at that level mate. Fair play to you for trying and I hope you get a few in.

p.s I take it introducing an extra training night is out of the question? I played amateur most of my adult life and always trained twice a week. Definitely makes a big difference if you have an extra gear of fitness. You just said yourself you are finding it harder to keep up with the young uns.

Definitely twice a week for training at that level. My fitness increased dramatically and you felt it on the pitch after we upped the schedule - even as a smoker.

2pm on Saturdays is a bit of a put off, I imagine.

When I played sat Ams and we always did two nights and it made a difference. Monday night was the hard night where you were running for an hour, followed by an hour of ball work on the 3G

Thursdays was usually an hour and it was all ball work with some short, sharp stuff at the end.

When I started running a team my approach was very similar although it was rarely just straight running on the Monday. The boys were always using the balls as part of the hard work and I found you got a much better response. Hammering guys for an hour without them having to thin about it just makes it a slog IMO.

I always felt you could see the teams that trained properly. Wasn't just their fitness, but their organisation, communication at set plays etc was a lot sharper.

I've turned my ankle playing fives on Sunday though, so injured for a fortnight. When's your next game? I'd maybe come watch and see if I'm good enough to play :lol:

We were doing 2 nights training but slot of our lads are self employed so always seemed to be working late the nights of training then we just done a double session on a wed which was better for most but not all. We have a game away to airth on sat in the league.

I'm just 2 minutes from Airth so i'll nip along on Saturday. That'll let me judge.

Is it the pitch down the back of Airth (that's the only pitch I know there)? What colours do you play in?

The game is at stenhousemuir sports centre. we play in maroon or black & yellow stripes
