Aye, it's a pretty sad state of affairs when politicians start to answer questions. Never mind, Nicola will boot his baws and make sure he doesn't make that mistake again.

Especially since there was absolutely nothing wrong with the answer and those who have jumped up and down are the ones despicably trying to score points instead of covering the real disgrace which is people called in SNP murderers.

Just a question of time before they start eating live babies.

It shows how low some have sunk that they immediately turn this sad occasion into SNP Bad. The guy hadn't even been dead a day.......

Absolutely.

Salmond can be a bit of an arse at times but I honestly can't see the problem with what he said here. The only people trying to make political gain out of this tragedy that I can see are those with an agenda against the SNP, and Salmond in particular.

I was disappointed to see Alex Massie wading in. I thought he had a bit more class than that.

I humbly disagree. He needlessly connected a mans death to an upcoming campaign, if that's not seeking political gain, I don't know what is.

It was my understanding (of which I could be mistaken) that rather than 'needlessly connecting' anything, he answered a question he was asked about CK and Better Together?

I didn't hear the whole interview, but that's what I've read.

I've seen and read many people saying how pro-European and pro-EU CK was. Are they all kunts, or just Salmond?

Danny Alexander has written for the Spectator saying now big an influence CK would have been in the upcoming campaign.

..... so at least 1 of them are khunts!

If it was after his death and relating directly to the upcoming EU election then it's in poor taste and for political gain. Only you mentioned khunts though :)

Fair play to Alex Massie for his response to this:

@alexmassie: Happy that @AlexSalmond has clarified his remarks re Charlie Kennedy. Happy to concede too that, given this, my piece on him y'day was OTT.

It would have been a bit more helpful had he not flown off the handle in the first place I suppose, but at least he's admitted it

The whole Salmond angle was typical of the pish the press come up with to push their agenda:

Any 'Anger at so and so at such and such comment' headline tends to involve the press phoning up a known rentagob who always has opinions about something, then giving them a distorted account of what has been said and getting then to confirn that they are angry at what they've just been told. Either that or they trawl through twitter to find a few tweets that particularly suit their angle.

On just about any topic or issue imaginable, someone, somewhere is angry (or can be made to get angry if they 're phoned up and told about it...), but the way the press spin this to suit their agenda is cynical and dishonest. If they wanted to tell the truth the headline would be something like 'Broad range of opinions on Salmond comments, initially polarised due to lack of context in early reports but moving more towards acceptance after context is fully explained and understood by those commenting' but that clearly ain't going to happen.

Even The Scotsman didn't try to make much of Salmond's comments, restricting it to a tiny piece in amongst the Kennedy tributes and quoting a couple of tweets (2 of which were from Massie and Salmond). Any controversy has been manufactured and restricted to the usual mix of opportunist mischief makers and zoomers on-line.

It is well known in Scottish political circles that BT were frustrated that Kenndy wasn't more prominent in the referendum campaign. It is said his reticence wasn''t because he was anything other than 100% pro-Union, it was because, as a man of principle, he was against the negative tactics of the campaign itself. He campaigned with far more vigour in the lead up to the GE.

As it happens I had discussions with a friend in Orkney in the days after the GE result in which I expressed the view that Kennedy would be a loss to the Commons. My friend (who is a Lib Dem councillor) responded that Kennedy might be a popular figurehead for the pro Europe campaign. What Salmond expressed yesterday reflected something that had been widely discussed in the previous few days.
