Uncle Albert
Why?? we can still rise Aye that we can Andy, but after what happened short term I mean, or as I will do, just don't sing the line but belt out the rest of the song....(bye the way i am a vodka and coke if you get to the pub before me!!) Caledonian Craig
In a football sense it is and should be business as usual. Singing the national anthem of course is not compulsory so each individual will have to make up their own mind on what they do. I will be singing it out of pride and tradition and have never sung it to make a political statement or refrained from singing it to also make a political point. RenfrewBlue
Sorry you are wrong. I always sing it with feeling and still will on Saturday as the words still hold relevance as we can still rise to be a nation again. Maybe never happened this time around but the lyrics doesn't exactly say we can still rise now and be a nation again in 2014 does it?? So please don't try to guess what the song means to me and the relevance of singing it. Out of interest do you join in with Doe A Deer? And if so do you love The Sound of Music as a film?No I don't sing Doe a deer as it's a ridiculous song with heehaw to do with my team. I think it originated from the TA being depressed and bored with piss poor Scotland performances but have no idea who thought it a good idea. Shows contempt for the team in my opinion. You obviously have a different opinion to me on FoS which is fair enough. You sing all you like. Out of interest, are you going to the England game and if so will you sing it then? I am expecting the Ingerland fans to piss themselves laughing at that point. After all we boo GSTQ so I think their revenge will be extensive.
Caledonian Craig
If I can get time off work I will go to the England match.. As for England pissing themselves no I don't think so. I think many of them got a shock so many voted for yes. Besides many of them are now craving more governing power from Westminster.
RenfrewBlue
Why?? we can still riseTechnically yes we can, however we just had the chance to do that and chose not to.So effectively the line in the song could be "and pigs can fly now" as it's also possible but won't happen. The song has no meaning now other than as a lament for lost glories. The people chose not to rise, so singing the song is ridiculous in my eyes. If others feel different then good for them. The Laud
England and ireland fans will be pissing themselves at the scotland fans trust me.Then you will get umpteen renditions of small part of england your just a small part of england. For me i hope theres a stony silence when fos is supposed to be sung and we can contimplate what might have been. I hope i get over this in the future who knows maybe feel like singing it in warsaw but i think even that will be too early.

Doric
At last we have a decent team but going by the views on here the support will let the team down. Other way round from the normal. I am hacked off by the referendum result but tomorrow I will put politics behind me and will get behind the team like I allways do.

Green_Tide_Rising
Lads as a Non Scot - i find this thread very interesting. My view is , 20 years ago who would have thought that Scotland would ever have had a chance to hold referendum on yere independence?Nevermind that nearly 50% of the scottish ppl would have voted in favour of it.!!! The NO result IMO is not a long term thumbs up for the british UNION. All this NO vote has done - is delay the INEVITABLE....which due to my above opening line reasons is......Scottish Independence is coming Massive progress has been made by the YES campaigners....and due to that i find some scottish fans atittudes that they wont sing FOS....quite frankly..... MENTAL!!!!! Cheers GTR Edited October 10, 2014 by Green_Tide_Rising
min
I think singing FOS now is more pertinent than it has ever been. I'll be belting it out tomorrow as loud as possible - probably with tears streaming down my face.
