Our wee group has been having a walkabout today! Weather is warm but not uncomfortable. Had breaky in some wee bar/cafe just off the main touristy bit and it was something like £16 for 5 beers, 5 waters, we all had food and 3 coffees. If you drink in the touristy bits it's about £7-8 for 4 beers. Sat in a German themed bar now and the manger has just put a mini cask of whisky on our table and told us it's free for us! Will probably be bedded by 8 noo!

Just starting researching the place today, Cable car, funicular, old town and old fortress,

Looks an interesting place to visit. Getting excited now.

There's a good free guide available if you google "in your pocket".

In your Pocket is really good.

If you can put up with the over enthusiastic presenter, this is a good documentary on Georgian food (and some Tbilisi info)

That's the thing about it - is it Europe or Asia. In some ways, it's pretty European - there's an EU flag flying outside the parliament. But Georgian history involves Iran pretty much as much as Russia. If you're interested in that sort of thing, you could try the permanent Exhibition of Soviet Occupation which is on the top floor of the National Museum close by Freedom Square.

Hot off the press - if you can get hold of a copy of Georgia Today - an English language paper - you'll find it in the Sheraton lobbies etc - there's a great piece on p 23 written by an ex-pat Scot called Alastair Watt: "Supra for the Scots - Tartan Army Guide to Tbilisi".

Been here since Friday now. Tbilisi is quieter than usual due to local holidays according to locals. Sherdeni St seems to be full of shisha bars and dodgy looking clubs, however there are lots of good bars in the surrounding area though that are half the price. (Sherdeni St is still much cheaper than UK prices) The street is still a good place to end up at the end of the night when you've had a few drinks though. The Hanger bar has a lot on for our visit and they were playing the usual TA songs in the bar even though there were only 4 of us in there. I've read on here it was a popular bar in 2007 and they are looking forward to the week ahead.
