Jacques Hunt
Regardless of whether or not The Rhodes Boy is good enough for the highest level, IMHO he is good enough to do a decent job for us and sincerely hope WGS tries him out in pre WCQ friendlies. I understand that Fletcher is number one up front because of our preferred (enforced?) 'style' of play but, as mentioned in another post, we need to be able to play more than one formation. With more games, hopefully more goals, he will become a valued squad member who can get us goals in big games. In Gord We Trust.
ErsatzThistle
So, one transfer and four almosts is risk taking? How many foreign strikers were brought in in the same windows? And WBA didn't take any risk with Lambert, he had already proven he could score in the EPL. A risk would have been buying him three years ago when he had "only" been scoring in the Championship, similar to Rhodes. You said: "Nobody took a risk on Richie Lambert or Charlie Austin" Should have worded your post better then. As it happens West Brom did "take a risk" on him. I pointed out that there was a fair amount of interest in "British" (well, English really) strikers during the window and that's not counting Daniel Sturridge, Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane who are playing regularly but won't move to any other Premier League team except for eye watering, mega money. Of course the Talksport way is to blame johnny foreigner for everything. Anyway this thread should be getting back on topic.

Think you'll find there was a bit more to my quote. Yes, I could have worded it better but didn't think I'd need to spell out my point. Lambert scored 28 goals in 75 games with an average Southampton side in the EPL, not sure where the risk is.
dessmfc
Rhodes is banging goals away in the Championship, far more than Griffiths did during his time. Now LG is scoring goals for Celtic, in a very poor league, I can't fathom why he gets the nod before Rhodes. I can understand why Fletcher gets picked, he is relatively pacey, good at coming back and holding up play, releasing others when doing so, and a decent tackler/defender when called upon. He's not a great scorer of goals, but sometimes is a scorer of great goals. I will throw into the mix.. Ross McCormack? Have I missed something here, is there a reason he doesn't get picked, has he deselected himself? The guy has been doing a great job for years, banging them in, and setting others up, at a decent level too.
