Going to Cape Town around the end of march next year , staying for 5 nights and then heading to Kruger National Park for another 5 nights on Safari .

Want to chill for a bit but also see the sights Robben Island , Table Mountain, Boulders` Beach etc . and it seems to be a reasonably cheap place to eat and drink .

So looking for recommendations of must see places and the best places for eats/drinks/nightlife ?

Mavericks

Shark cage diving @ Gaans Baii and Whale watching from Hermanus - both around 1-1.5 hour from cape town

I wouldnt bother with the para gliding - not worth the money

I always still fancied taking a helicopter tour of Cape Town and the Atlantic seaboard - you can also get a motorbike & sidecar tour

Need to travel through Chapmans Peak as well

Cheers for that Euan

That isn`t a website I can visit on a works` server though ! Not sure the wife would be interested in visiting it either ( although I might ask her later just for clarification ) .

We have talked about taking the Helicopter trip already as neither of us have been in one :ok:

Going whale watching in Iceland in January and snorkelling , but definitely up for doing that again , think she might take a bit of persuading for the shark cage diving though !!

Went in Jan 2012 and going back in Jan 2016, great country. When we went eating & drinking was reasonable and the exchange rate was 13 Rand to £1 and now it`s about 19 so we should be quids in.

Top tips, get your trip to Robben Island booked in advance and you can also save an hour q`ing for the Table Top cable car by booking that in advance.

Take the hop on hop off tourist bus and do a circuit in that to get a feel of the layout of the city, it will also take you to a few of the beach resorts as well. Use the bus on the day you visit Table Top as it drops and picks up right by the entrance to the cable car, this saves you trying to find a parking spot as you can end up parked half a mile away.

Lots to choose from for eating out but we went here twice http://www.labohemebistro.co.za/

Their 3 course menu was about £12

Cheers for that we are staying at Protea Sea point hotel so must be fairly close to this . We`ve looked at booking some stuff in advance but also want to go with the flow a bit as well and have a day or two of chilling out , thanks for all the recommendations :ok:

I work down in the western cape at various times of the year and go with a lot of whats been said on here, Franschhoek, stellenbosch and Paarl are all nice and safe places to go.

If you fancy a Scottish beer there is Mitchells in the waterfront in cape town a real pub !!! and if you want to splash out on a good seafood meal, try Blues in Camps Bay, upmarket but well worth it.

Lots to do and see and you definitely will not go hungry !!!

had food tonight at Mitchells and must be worst nacho's ever had

if you are going to be down at V&A should try Belthazar for steak or Kingklip - really nice that you see their Chiller in corner of restaurant where you see them ageing the meat 28 days

http://www.belthazar.co.za/

Pigalle on Somerset Road (De Waterkant/Greene Point) is also very good

http://pigallerestaurants.co.za/capetown/

Hussar Grill for steaks (Greene Point & Camps Bay )

http://www.hussargrill.co.za/find-us/western-cape/green-point/

Mama Afrikas on Long Street is also worth a visit for the vibe of Congolese Band that plays there - they do game meat such as Crocodile etc

I would not eat in mitchells not with all the restaurants available in the waterfront but the beer is good.

Get to On the Rocks at Bloubergstrand for dinner, the best view of Table Mountain you'll see.

I'd also recommend getting out to Chapman's Peak, Hout Bay and Camps Bay (Blues Restaurant) to get out of the city.

Loads to eat/drink/see at the Waterfront but worth spending a night in Long Street.

If you have time and like wine, Stellenbosch tours are worth it, worth visiting.

some summer concerts at Kirstenbosch bottanical gardent - can take your own wine and picnic

about £7.50 a ticket

http://insideguide.co.za/kirstenbosch-summer-sunset-concerts/

Seconded. There wasn't a concert when we were there unfortunately but the gardens are superb - as with so much on the Cape Peninsula, the setting is stunning, as are the plants and birds.

Looks good. Minibus taxis as in what the, er, locals get? I thought that was a recipe for a one way trip to khayelitsha?

14 seater buses - they do 7 km circuits, so dont take you any further than the city centre - there is also MyCiti buses now but not as frequent

Protea Sea Point to city centre in a min cab should be around 70-100 rans so say £3.50-£5.00

you are better off hiring a car anyway to be able to travel chapmans peak, cape point, vineyards and just getting about

i enjoyed the seal snorkelling - might do it again - i would post my go pro filming online if i knew how to

I would avoid the para gliding - the mothers just want to get you down as quick as possible so they can get back up hill, to get someone else

or if you are going to do it - dont pre-book - just rock up when you are confident the thermals are good - you can see difference between people just floating down straight or getting caught in thermals and rising up high above table mountain - taking off Lions Head is bettter

Actually - you need to go climb Lions Head - about 60-mins - this gives the best panoramic view of Cape Town - folk also go up there when its full moon, so its a bit mobbed,

forgot to say - there is a market on Friday/Saturday/Sunday in Hout Bay with stalls etc which is worth visit with live music and bars etc

http://www.bayharbour.co.za/

Might be able to combine with time @ seal snorkelling

Also good market on a Saturday at the Old Biscuit Mill

http://www.theoldbiscuitmill.co.za/

I very rarely visit, but lots of folk like

Also need to consider going to the Rugby - not sure when the Super 16 matches start

This restaurant is meant to be very good at the Biscuit Mill but needs to be booked 1 month ahead type thing
