Anyone on here follow the baseball?

Been some good NFL chat so wondered if we have any followers of America's favourite pastime on here.

For my sins, I'm a long time Cubs fan and try to get over for a few games most years. Not always been easy to watch - travelled over a couple of years back for seven games and saw them win one!! But with the new regime, a solid manager, ace pitcher and a very young and talented team this could be the beginning of something good!!

Cards at Wrigley on BT Sports tonight, canny wait :ok:

TT

PS I have my money on a single digit number for the first post to mention glorified rounders, now c'mon TAMB don't disappoint :wink2:

Love the baseball. Been a huge Giants fan since the mid 80s so the last few years have been fun. However, it's an odd year so will probably miss the play offs this season. A lot will depend on how successfully McGahee replaces Sandoval and how Cain pitches on his return from elbow surgery. Need to get Angel Pagan fit too.

It's always difficult to make predictions before the season, but I'll stick my neck out and pick Washington and Boston for the World Series.

Agree, bit early to predict, but right now I would go for Washington and the O's but need to sit down and watch a bit this season to get more of an informed pick.

Ended up chucking watching it halfway through last season as the Cubs were so bad. This year the pieces are in place to challenge though I think we're probably a year or two away to really scare the Cards and Pirates.

Used to watch it all the time, when channel 5 did the coverage with Jonny somebody was great.

I didn't know much about it and settled on the Yankees cause i really like Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter, but then i started watching them more and thought feck that, plus they had won the most, then i went to chicago and saw a white sox game, so them were my guys.

I've been to see the Red Sox quite a few times, both in Boston and Toronto. Looking to go from worst-first in the AL East this year, just like 2013. Unfortunately they have a really weak pitching rotation despite amassing an impressive hitting line up.

Well the Cubs were the Cubs last night, massive expectation and then shut out by the Cards, runners stranded on third three or four times, star pitcher pulled after four innings and some absolutely rotten fielding. So, looks like another false dawn to add to the last hundred or so!!

Still, two starlets who are being held back for two weeks to add a year on to their contracts have still to arrive, so might not fully give up this year until at least May 1st :ok:

Sometimes makes me wish I'd picked the White Sox...

Been a Giants fan since 2001.

Been over for a few games at AT&T also.

The Giants have definitely been the team to follow in the last 15 years.

Bonds exploits, throwing away the 2002 WS, horrendously bad seasons in '07 and '08, winning three WS in 5 years, Lincecum's Cy Youngs etc.

I'm not holding out much hope this year, Jim.

I don't think McGehee's good enough, Aoki's just a stop-gap in LF, will Pagan's back hold up, how will Pence's injury affect him, will Cain be as good as before, is Lincecum finished, will Panik repeat what he did last year....too many questions about the team.

With San Diego going for it this season and that mob in LA still throwing money around, I think it may be 3rd at best this year. Hope I'm wrong.

They have a load of money coming off the books at the end of the year, so hopefully they splash the cash on the glut of great pitching that's available in free agency to replace Lincecum and Vogelsong - Jonny Cueto, David Price, Samardzija etc.

Used to watch it on C5 also.

It was usually only on a Sunday night, and you only ever got the Sunday night game that ESPN were showing.

Jonny Gould and Josh Chetwynd were great at presenting the show.

Chetwynd was a bit of a player in his day also.

Stick with them, the Cubs are great!

I stuck a double on the Cubs to win the WS and Hibs to win the Scottish Cup this year.

The whole Back To The Future II thing, then getting Maddon and Lester, then Hibs getting every easy draw going made me think it was fated.

It won't happen, though, because like every year in the last hundred and odd, they find a way to mess it up.

He played Catcher did he not? Sure he mentioned his fecked knees, also another guy called Mark (i think) did it a year always ragging on Gould for his shirts.

I mind it being wednesday and sunday, or tuesday and sunday. Maybe not all the time but depending on schedule.

If you had said possibly instead of definitely then that might be true. The Red Sox have at at least as interesting a 15 years as the Giants.

I've still got a copy of the souvenir program from the 100 year anniversary game at Wrigley Field for you.

McGehee and Aoki look like typical Sabean acquisitions. Not superstars, but solid pros who will should fit in with the Giants team ethic. Similar to guys like Cody Ross and Marco Scutaro. They're only likely to be around for a season or two but will hopefully contribute enough to support the core of the team. Both made a promising start last night and it was great to see Pagan back and contributing and Panik carrying on where he left off last season. Not getting too excited though given that Arizona was the opposition and I expect them to really struggle with that line up this season.

It's the starting pitching that worries me. Bumgarner is a superstar, but the rest of the rotation is a major question mark. Peavy, Hudson and Vogelsong are all past their best. I was hopeful we'd get Cain back pain free for the first time in a couple of years and back to his best, but I see he's got an elbow strain and heading to the DL which is worrying. Who knows what we'll get from Lincecum. He's still got great stuff but over the last few years has been prone to chuck in one terrible inning per start.

The Padres and Dodgers definitely look stacked with talent but whether they gel as teams is another question. Hopefully not!

Giants sweep LA in a 3 game series. Much needed after a 4-10 start and virtually being unable to hit the ball out of the infield. Hopefully that will get them going.

3 crucial wins, Jim.

2 of which came on walk-off hits, so the game could have went either way.

If they can just play .500 ball until both Pence returns and they manage to glue the broken bits back on three-fifths of the starting rotation (thank goodnes heston has done well since his call-up), they should be OK.

I still maintain McGehee's terrible, though.

Let Matt Duffy play.

How are the Mets 13-3?! How does that happen?

Even stranger, Bartolo Colon tagged a man out yesterday by running him down.

How does that happen?!

Fair enough it was only AJ Pierzynski, so not a speedy guy, but Colon must weigh about 25 stone.

You've got your wish. McGehee designated for assignment today.

I didn't think it was surprising that he was DFA, he completely earned it, what was surprising was how early it was done.

Ishikawa DFA today too.

As I saw written a couple of days ago, this shows that Bobby Evans is definitely the GM now. The days of Sabean giving veteran players more than their fare share of time are gone.

On a happier note, the team has really come on to a game in the last month and are looking more like reigning champions.

Going to the cubs game tonight. Yeah baby!

Great game, decent pitching from the Cubs and some great defensive plays - and would have been good to see the two hottest prospects in baeball, Bryant and Harper, both homer, plus the bonus of a walk of win for the Cubbies!!

Hope you enjoyed it!

Go Cubs go!!

It was brilliant. Four home runs, Bryant's was a doozy, and then a walk off double with two out at the bottom of the ninth. What a game.

Defensive infield for the Cubs looks fantastic on last night's showing, sharp as hell.

Going again tonight. And Saturday. And Sunday.

Giant's rookie Chris Heston threw the first no-hitter of the season last night against the Mets, and the 4th Giants' no-hitter in the last 4 years.

He managed to plunk three guys on the way to doing it, but it's still a brilliant performance.

The 2015 draft continues in to it's third day today also, but it's not a particularly exciting draft class this year.

Indians pick up a switch-pitcher, 90+mph fast ball with either hand...that's going to be interesting..apart from that our seasons shit ...still over 100 games to go so early days
