SMcoolJ
So does mount rushmore, do we suspect that's in Scotish waters?. I asked how you can suspect a sub, if the nail you're hanging that suspicion on is "it exists" then you must suspect everything that exists is in there too, or more likely it's another reason beyond being in existence that fuels this suspicion. LOL. Was just highlighting that subs exist which probably means there’s slightly more chance of any suspected sighting being more plausible than that of a monster. As for Mount Rushmore, I'm totally ignorant as to its subsurface capabilities - although i do believe it exists but haven't actually seen it with my own eyes so can't be certain (in so much as seeing something with your own eyes provides any certainty whatsoever). To be honest, I was poking fun at the person who raised the sub “suspicion" and just used your analogy to sarcastically highlight he may have a "point"..... Cheap dig and last laugh on me - there's been a suspected sighting of a sub in Scottish waters!!!!
phart
i think there is room or a bit of both on this thread. I know it's serious stuff but if we are going to get nuked there isn't really much we can do about it so we might as well try to see the funny side of it. I think it's useful for those of us who find it hard to get our head around all the stuff going on in the middle east (it's awfy complicated) to have a wee break for a laugh at Peever, in the midst of learning new stuff from those who are more knowledgable. There's room for anything. I'll give you my context for that post. I was busy this morning very early, and then fell asleep on my computer chair listening to somethng. I then woke up , clicked on the net and came here and saw Biffers post about the shoot-down. Opened the thread to read about it, as it's a huge incident and then suddenly the channel is switched to basically a soap opera instead of the news and i got annoyed that information i was wanting right that second was obfuscated by partisans shouting across the street at each other. My thirst for information and what i saw as irrelevancies had me making that post. It was just me snapping as i was being foiled, purely selfish from me. I'm over it now since i've caught up. Basically out the way i want to see.

I'm just agitated as this is a serious problem, and projecting forward doesn't look good. in other bad news It’s a tough day for Moscow. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports that Syrian fighters destroyed a Russian helicopter with a missile, shortly after they forced it to make an emergency landing in a nearby government-held area in Syria’s Latakia province. A Syrian insurgent group, which receives US Tow missiles, said its fighters hit the helicopter with an anti-tank missile while it was in the air and put out a video showing the helicopter being blown up after one of its fighters struck it with another missile. Rami Abdulrahman from the Observatory said at least 10 people were on the helicopter when it was hit but they were all evacuated when it landed and before the missile destroyed it. So the "moderates" are taking out russian Helicopters with american weapons. Edited November 24, 2015 by phart

phart
Putin levelling more acusations, folk were wondering where the oil is going, Putin claims it's been going to Turkey. We have long been recording the movement of a large amount of oil and petroleum products to Turkey from Isis-occupied territories. This explains the significant funding the terrorists are receiving. Now they are stabbing us in the back by hitting our planes that are fighting terrorism. This is happening despite the agreement we have signed with our American partners to prevent air incidents, and, as you know, Turkey is among those who are supposed to be fighting terrorism within the American coalition. If Isis is making so much money – we are talking about tens or maybe even hundreds of millions, possibly billions of dollars – in oil trade and they are supported by the armed forces of an entire state, it is clear why they are being so daring and impudent, why they are killing people in such gruesome ways, why they are committing terrorist attacks all over the world, including in the heart of Europe. However the papers here desribed it as Russians violating our airspace and we had to scramble two eurofighters. Not to say it didn't happen, just to say that when i researched one incident the papers had put a tremendous spin on it.

I'm just agitated as this is a serious problem, and projecting forward doesn't look good. in other bad news It’s a tough day for Moscow. So the "moderates" are taking out russian Helicopters with american weapons. Perfectly understandable [your agitation]. Hard to know what to think right now. As regards the latest incident, I guess a lot will depend on the outcome of an enquiry into where the Russian plane was actually shot down - in Turkish airspace or not (if indeed it's even possible to mediate between the two stories and determine the actual truth). However you look at it though, someone was up to something they shouldn't have been so I can't see a particularly happy ending. The latest, latest incident you mention above certainly won't help matters. ETA - that above also assumes there will even be the notion to wait and find the truth before acting - maybe a luxury not afforded this time round..... ByronLoon1986
After 20 long years Scotland will probably qualify for Russia 2018.... .... But they will be in a nuclear war with the west and the competition will be cancelled!!! Ah well there's always euro 2020 if we're still here haha
AlfieMoon
Not for one minute saying to take the BBC seriously but here is a link to a suspected Russian sub near or in Scottish waters. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-34896956 The funny thing about the ridiculous article is it positioning that an RAF plane is conducting this defensive activity when it in fact goes on to state that the UK actually has no maritime patrol aircraft and it is in fact being searched for by a French plane (and I believe Canada were also supporting). It kind of smacks of UK BBC trying to position the strength of the UK and position the Russian bogeyman as the headlines - before it goes on to detail the actual story. The papers have been seeded with Russian stories and airspace the last year or so, with planes etc. I looked into one at the time and the planes were nowhere near our airspace were conducting an international operation that had been known about for 9 months beforehand. As far as I understand they fly international air corridors and aren't infringing on UK or anyone else's airspace. The necessary communication and escorts are effectively passed from country to country from the moment that they leave Russian airspace so that the Scandinavian countries end up then passing on to the UK that they are coming in the general direction of UK airspace. The UK then scrambles jets to escort and protect the boundary. It's happened for decades, is routine and is effectively posturing. It's not nearly as sinister to the extent that the UK media would like to make it out to be. I also think it's fairly certain that the UK and other NATO partners do the same things in return. The Russian sub has been floating around scottish waters for months... my mate who works on a bomber spent the last three months not being able to shower because of the , then the sub broke and ended up sitting in a US base for weeks.... Bristolhibby
Let's not forget it's a standard practice of the Russian military to push other people's airspace and maritime boundaries. They do it with us all the time - there's a sub suspected in Scottish waters currently. As we do continuously off Murmansk with greater incursions, and with NATO Aircraft on the Northern flank and in the Baltic. We are both at it, and have been for about 70 years.
