I'm not sure unreality understand what I'm asking for so good luck. I just have freeview, no cable where I live and Sky can't put dish in duecto hill and trees out back. Signal on TV okay unless it's very windy or heavy rain. ( so most of the time.) I wanted to be able to record programmes and was told to buy a Humax and it's rubbish, when I watch TV through Humax most of the channels break up so can't record anything through it but when I turn to ordinary TV the signal isn't bad. Can I buy just a recorder to record through my ordinary TV?

I'd start by asking why the picture from the Humax is so poor.

We had a Humax box until recently and were very pleased with it.

Bastardo!! :-) the fact I have to make my own emoticons shows you're actually spot on. Beemur.

I think it's bad magic but not many people agree. Is Humax anything to do with broadband, if so it may be due to my broadband being terrible? My TV aerial can now be seen from the moon but still programmes still breaking up. Village of the fecking damned.

Oh and my youngest nephew probably hates me as he pointed out the line I thought showed my signal is actually showing how long programme has been on and how long it still has to go. I told him in absolutely no uncertain terms that he was wrong as I think after having the TV for 3 years I'd know what the signal bit was and it's only Sky and suchlike that have capability to tell you how long programmes have been on. Suffice to say, he's right I'm wrong but I was too petty to admit it. Hence why I think it's bad magic and I'm being punished for being a chunt of a human being. :-(

You're all going to the big burny fire!

I'm just going to buy complete collection of Columbo as that's the only thing I want to tape. None of you are invited to the Columbofest.

P. S Andy, I still have my tape recorder but doesn't work with freeview so jokes on you.

Aye alright, it's not but it's a Saturday, I'm not out and having to rely on TAMB for advice so go easy.

?

Why not? I can make mine work with Sky.

Possibly due to aerial and surrounding "geography" but an aerial upgrade might help.

I've just had an aerial upgrade, well it's a new aerial and it's up higher than it's ever been. In fact first windy night it'll probably snap in half. The first Sky man sent out a 'specialised' Sky fitter and he looked out back window, laughed and said "no chance" so I think geography is correct answer I just didn't realise Humax worked same way as Sky and an aerial.

How the hell would I know, my pal said it wouldn't work and that was enough for me. I can watch videos though.

So ariel --> freeview box --> TV.

Why not ariel --> freeview box --> VCR --> TV

I've no idea where the aerial goes. First time I've ever thought about it. I know it must go into my telly but I just don't know how it gets from outside to inside. Just had a look around house and back bedroom had a wire that comes through the ceiling but I think it comes from the attic so I imagine aerial wire must go into attic and then down but no idea where it comes into living room. (I think a certain man whose only interests is bicycles will have to get finger out and help me.) I kicked the unit the TV sits on earlier and as it's also a surround book case it really hurt my toe so I can't be bothered looking at TV or aerials anymore. I'm just sticking to books and DVDs. But is the answer to original question a no, I can't buy a wee recording box that with one wire plugs into my TV and records ordinary tv?

It's a TV with freeview in it, but telly upstairs is separate so i'll try it up there.

I don't care what they all say about you in the elite board Andy, I think you're okay. ☺️

Your head may explode, but since you like reading...

I have a loft aerial whos cable splits into different rooms. By the time ta cable goes down to the living room and along the skirting, the signal is crap. So we have a simple wee aerial booster. In Cantonese...

Cable come into room --> plug into booster socket marked "In" or "Ant" --> cable to TV/Humax from booster socket marked "Out" or "TV"

This is not mine, but something like it...

Problem with those as they amplify the signal as well as any interference a head amplifier is a better option
