Scott Arfield Wanted By Canada

Scott Arfield will be a big loss, a great player and if anyone watches the championship will know how good he has been bossing the Burnley midfield.  He is certainly better and would rather have him in the squad rather than Brown & McLean.

No problem with him joining Canada, but wish more that Strachan had at least given him a fair chance to show what he can do over the last 2 years (even if in just a friendly....especially with so many of our regular midfield starters off form for the last 12 or so months)

Granted he plays in the one position were we are flooded with players already, and probably would not have been good enough to keep a place on a regular basis if the likes of Brown, Morrison and Fletcher could find their form where they were automatic picks for every game...and with the likes of McArthur waiting in the wings, probably just a case of no room for him.

I am glad you have specified the position he plays and that is the reason he hasn't, or wouldn't, be selected. According to the Scott Arfield Family & Friends TA on Facebook he is the most versatile player we have ever had, filling any role from flying winger, in the hole, central mid to holding mid, with consummate ease. No doubt he could also fill our problem centre back, right back and regular goal scorer positions too. A huge loss. Apparently.

This is Scott Arfield we're talking about FFS, not Paul Scholes.

No loss.

Indeed. Some strange comments on this thread.

Burnley games I have caught on tv he has played right down the middle, but have read that he seems to have been played all over the place (especially before Dyche came along, but has settled him into a full time midfield role and described him as the driving force of his midfield).

Indeed, overlooked and pushed to the side for reasons that cannot be justified apparently.

His heart clearly wasn't in it if he was prepared to drop his drawers and play for Canada.  If he really wanted to play for Scotland he would have dug in, improved and waited for the call up.  He didn't, he whored himself out so he can put international football on his CV and get a few more sheckles when he negotiates his next contract.

File under McGeady/McCarthy and move on.

I don't agree with that tbh.

He's approaching his later 20's and Scotland dont need him & Wil never call him up. He's part Canadian and probably means a lot to represent them too & He maybe has a better chance of appearing at a world cup with them anyway!

Good luck to him.

Funny, if it was the other way around and a guy who had played at various levels for say England then decided that, seeing as he couldn't get a game for them, he switched to us at this stage he'd be getting pelters on here

Maybe he is getting pelters on the Canadian fans board as we speak?

Subbed in at the half. Looked really good (as much as you can say that when you lose 3-nil to a superior team)

May have re-injured his back in stoppage time.

We love him. He is a huge asset. He's cap-tied for us. :)

Good, all the best to him i wouldnt havd minded hum getting a chance for us but he canny wait around forever
