ParisInAKilt
Just bought a Sony one and it's saying device not supported when I attempt to plug in my external hard drive - 2TB My passport. Is there something I can do to the hard drive to make it work?
ParisInAKilt
Having a wee goggle and I'm reading about FAT32 formatted, the DVD player won't recognise the format of larger hard drives
ParisInAKilt
Read the manual, what an idea - this player supports USB mass storage only - this player supports FAT formatted USB only guessing my hard drive is neither
joe545
Read the manual, what an idea - this player supports USB mass storage only - this player supports FAT formatted USB only guessing my hard drive is neither If you are using windows then your hard drive is almost certainly NTFS not FAT32. FAT32 is an older solution that started to be phased out by Microsoft when they brought in Windows XP. Strange why a new Sont device would only support such an old file format. ParisInAKilt
Cheers guys. Does seem strange. Might take the DVD player back or just buy a small flag USB that I can use to watch stuff
Dillinger
Just get a wee 2gb usb pen, format it FAT and transfer whatever film or that you're watching on a given night onto that

Had a Google and I think I can get a 16gb pen and that can be formatted FAT
hunchy
I just use a 16 GB USP stick and load it up with avi/mp4 format films and do it that way. Does mean I have to change films in the stick every now and then but not to much hassle

EIFA10
Or invest in one of these, if you can still get them. I have had one for 3 years. Great piece of kit. Stick it on your network and have whatever you download automatically transfer over to it. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00466IEXE/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1432757222&sr=8-4π=AC_SX110_SY165&keywords=wdtv+live+media+player&dpPl=1&dpID=41gImXd8nGL&ref=plSrch

EIFA10
or another alternative would be to get a chromecast and then just stream stuff to that using Plex Also a good option. I do the same on a couple of devices around the home. However, the advantage of the likes of the WD box mentioned (and I don't work for them or sell them!), is that you can store hundreds of movies, tv shows and music on there and then don't need your laptop or pc to be turned on to stream. It also works like a network hard drive (even in standby mode), so I actually stream from it too.
